Theatre Arts at Davidson High School is a dynamic and growing program that explores the many facets of this art form. We offer Theatre I for novice students of theatre. This class is open to all students regardless of grade level and provides a basic introduction to theatre including improvisation, voice & diction, movement & pantomime, and scene & monologue work. Theatre II, Theatre III (Directing & Stage Management), and Theatre IV (Theatre Production) are also offered for students wishing to further advance their knowledge of the theatre arts. These classes are more advanced and explore areas such as advanced acting techniques, theatre history, theatre styles, playwriting, direction, and the production process.

Davidson theatre students are given many opportunities to perform throughout the year through class projects, theatre competitions, and mainstage shows. Last year marked Davidson's third year of competition in the Walter Trumbauer State Theatre Festival and our students earned 11 medals out of 12 participants in the district competition. 8 of those advanced with "superior" ratings to the state competition this past December where they garnered 5 "superior" ratings and one first place win for Madi Carr in solo comedic musical theatre. In addition to individual events, Davidson students will once again be competing in the Trumbauer One-Act division. This one-act will also be performed for area middle school students, the Davidson student body, and the general public as our fall season offering. Our productions often allow theatre students to collaborate with students and instructors of many disciplines including vocal music, band, dance, art, and drafting.
Theatre students at Davidson also have several opportunities to experience theatre outside of daily classwork through field trips, guest performances, and workshops.
Students can also accumulate points through extracurricular work in theatre to qualify for membership into the International Thespian Society
